The FS 251 R combines its rugged design with versatile features such as the loop handle, ideal for trimming between bushes and shrubs and other hard to reach areas, to provide users with a heavy-duty tool that provides optimal maneuverability to handle a variety of situations. Equipped with a vertically-pleated paper air filter that provides an extended service life, users can get to work quicker and count on this gas trimmer to last longer. A powerful low exhaust emission engine saves users fuel and operating costs without losing the power they count on to get the job done.

STIHL ElastoStart™

The ElastoStart™ starter handle is a feature of STIHL. It is a starting grip with a built-in shock absorber that helps reduce the effort when pulling on the starter cord. The ElastoStart™ starter grip noticeably reduces the sudden peak forces (compression) normally felt during cranking. The forces which occur at the grip after the first compression stroke are smoothed out.

TapAction™ AUTOCUT® Cutting Head

TapAction™ allows users to adjust the line length simply by tapping the cutting head against the ground.

IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor

The IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor measures the air pressure on the clean side of the air filter and adjusts the metering diaphragm in the carburetor. This keeps the RPM at a consistent level, even when the air filter begins to clog.

Loop Handle

A thumb screw allows the ergonomic loop handle to be easily adjusted to the desired position without tools.

Anti-Vibration System

STIHL has a system for minimizing the vibration levels of handheld outdoor power equipment. The STIHL anti-vibration system helps reduce operator fatigue and provides a more comfortable working experience.

Multi-Function Control Handle

Semi-Automatic Choke Lever

The semi-automatic choke lever enables the simplified three-step start procedure, saving users time and allowing them to start jobs faster.

Simplified Starting Procedure

To get started, users simply pump the fuel primer, set the choke, and pull the starter cord. The built-in stop switch allows the user to turn off the engine with a simple press of the button. When the engine is off, the throttle lock automatically returns to the "start" setting. The tool will be ready to start again when the user is ready to get back to work.

Vertical Pleated Paper Air Filter

Thanks to better air filtration due to its greater surface area, the vertical pleated paper air filter can extend the time between servicing.

Easily remove the cover for fast and easy filter cleaning or replacement.

Fully-Lined Drive Shaft
